Quick Troubleshooting Chart
Why Did I Get a PDF Instead of a Spreadsheet?
All SquishSays templates are built for Google Sheets.
Because Google Sheets lives online, we can’t directly upload a live file. Instead, you’ll receive a PDF with two important links:
- Your private spreadsheet link
- Instructions on how to use it
The Link in the PDF Isn’t Working — What Should I Do?
Make sure you’re opening the PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader (free version).
Other programs (like Preview on Mac) sometimes block clickable links.
👉 Download Acrobat Reader here if needed: Adobe Acrobat Reader Download
How Do I Save My Spreadsheet?
No need to worry about saving manually.
Google Sheets saves every change automatically as you work — as long as you’re online.
You can always find your spreadsheets at sheets.google.com.
Troubleshooting Access Issues
I Clicked “Use Template” But It Won’t Load
This can happen sometimes. Try these steps:
- If it’s spinning endlessly: Refresh the page or try again on a computer or laptop (not a phone).
- If it’s stuck in “View Only” mode:
-
- Click File → Make a Copy.
- Save it to your Google Drive.
Still stuck? Check:
- Your Google Drive isn’t full (check at drive.google.com).
- Your browser is up to date.
- You’re logged into the correct Google Account.
- You’re not using incognito mode.
If none of this works, try switching browsers (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Edge).
Why Did My Spreadsheet Open in “View Only” Mode?
Usually, it’s because:
- You’re not signed into a Google account.
- Your Google Drive storage is full.
- You’re opening in an unsupported browser or device.
Quick fix: Click File → Make a Copy to create your personal, editable version.
Still stuck? Open from a computer instead of your phone or tablet first.
Managing Your Spreadsheet
Can I Open It with a Different Google Account?
Yes — the spreadsheet isn’t tied to the account you bought it with.
To open it with a different account:
- Log into sheets.google.com with the new account.
- Go back to the PDF and click the link again.
- Click Use Template.
Can I Share the Spreadsheet with Someone Else?
Absolutely. To share it:
- Open your spreadsheet.
- Click the green Share button (top right).
- Enter their email address.
- Choose their access:
-
- Viewer: Can only see
- Editor: Can edit
- Owner: Full control (use with caution)
- Can I Use the Spreadsheet Offline?
Yes — but you’ll need to enable offline mode in Google Sheets first.
Follow Google’s official guide here: Use Google Docs, Sheets, & Slides offline
Can I Use It on My Phone or Tablet?
Yes, after setting it up on a computer (recommended for first-time setup).
For the best experience, download the Google Sheets app on iOS or Android.
Can I Open It in Excel or GoodNotes?
No — SquishSays templates are designed only for Google Sheets.
If you try to open or export them to Excel, formulas will break and features won’t work as intended.
Using and Customising Your SquishSays Template
Can I Use This for Multiple Months or Years?
Yes!
Duplicate tabs inside the spreadsheet for new months or years as needed.
Just adjust the dates at the top of each tab, easy.
What If I Accidentally Break the Spreadsheet?
No stress, Google Sheets automatically saves version history.
To restore an earlier version:
- Click File → Version History → See Version History
- Pick a working version and restore it.
Can I Customise the Spreadsheet?
Yes, you’re free to tweak anything for personal use.
We protect core formulas with warnings (not locks), so you can adjust layouts or add new tabs without worry.
However, we don’t offer customisation services at this time.
